THE PASSOVER LAMB

By Jennifer Waddle

On a recent trip to visit family, our flight was delayed by adverse weather. We were stuck in the airport for hours and eventually sent to the customer service desk. When we reached the line, however, we were shocked to see it wrap around the airport terminal, almost the length of a football field!

Without any other recourse, we took our place in line, preparing ourselves for the hours-long wait. At first, my heart was “grumbly,” wanting to be anywhere else but in that line. But then, the Holy Spirit lifted my gaze to the people around me. As crowds brushed past, hurrying to their flights, I realised I was surrounded by people from all over the world. Young, old, happy, sad… people from every age and stage were confined in that airport, each one trying to make it to their destination.

“Lord,” I prayed silently, “Please bless these people and guide them on their way. And if they don’t know You, please make Yourself known to them.”

Praying instead of grumbling changed my entire perspective that day, and I began to think that perhaps my flight was delayed so that I could pray for those precious people. My frustration turned into compassion, and my impatience turned into humble praise.

It’s that time of year again when the beautiful traditions of Passover remind us of our humble condition. It’s a time to pause and remember God’s love, mercy, and redemption through the perfect sacrifice of His Son. The true Passover Lamb continues to reach people of every nation, as John the Baptist said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

The focus of Passover has always been freedom, freedom and deliverance for God’s people. And as we celebrate alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters, we pray for people everywhere to be freed by the true and living God.

Reflecting on the night of the first Passover, we remember how God’s love and mercy marked the doors of every believer. They didn’t know what the future held, but they trusted in the One who held the future. What a strong message for us today. We, too, can trust the God of our future.

My friends, why not try gathering around the table for a Seder meal this year, letting every element point to the Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ who is mighty to save. May mercy, peace, and freedom be yours in abundance.

Let's pray together... Heavenly Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your Son, the One who makes a way when there seems to be no way.
