For nothing will be impossible with God. Luke 1:37
For decades, Gennady and Nina worked tirelessly in the coal mines of Donetsk, saving every hard-earned penny. At 78 and 77 years old, they finally retired and created a home filled with love and laughter.
Then, everything changed when fighting erupted in their city.

On a Saturday morning, sirens shattered the silence. “We looked at each other and ran to the cellar,” Gennady recalls, his voice trembling. Within moments, an explosion buried them beneath the rubble of their beloved home.
After being trapped for six agonising hours, rescue teams finally freed them, battered and bruised but alive. With nothing but each other, they boarded a bus to safety.
“When the couple arrived at our refugee center, they were in shock” says Sasha, our coordinator. “We embraced them with love and assured them they were now part of our family. We then moved Gennady and Nina into a small apartment and provided them with all the essentials they needed.”
Today, Nina is struggling with diabetes and is losing her eyesight. Her Gennady is always by her side.
